Once the private hunting grounds of the Maharajas of Jaipur, Ranthambore is one of India's premier tiger reserves, its forest punctuated by the ruins of a 10th-century fort rising straight out of the jungle. Banyan trees, chhatris and lakeside pavilions sit alongside grasslands where tigers, sloth bears and marsh crocodiles roam.
